Contents of the Star-Sayings’ Souvenir of St. Louis CD

In 1893, the St. Louis Star-Sayings, one of several local newspapers, published an oversize book entitled, The Star- Sayings’ Souvenir of St. Louis. In the introduction, the compilers emphasized their need to turn away from past published histories of the City and to “perpetuate, for future reference, the accurate portraits of the leading citizens who are still the actors in this magnificent work.” This beautiful book has now become a part of St. Louis history. Within its pages are descriptions of many St. Louis businesses, pages of illustrated advertisements, and, most important, biographies of the individuals who were shaping St. Louis’s place in the booming economy of late nineteenth century America.

Completely indexed by businesses and names, this book, long out of print, is now available to St. Lou is researchers to use at home. Because the files are in .pdf format, you can save them to your computer, share them with relatives, and/or print them for your own personal use.
