In addition to running the Family History Library in Salt Lake City and all its local subsidiaries, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints maintains a huge website called FamilySearch.org. The past several years have seen enormous changes to that website, and this guide has been prepared to walk genealogists through what is there. The website is not a site just for Mormons; it is for everyone, and this guidebook will be very helpful if you are going to make the most of its potential. What will you find inside? Beginning with a history of the website, the book includes information about visiting the Family History Library and then goes into great detail about all different aspects of the website. The author concentrates on many parts of the website that most people may not even know are there, such as the wiki, the forums, and the labs. If all you have done on the site before is to search the library catalog (and even that part has changed), you will definitely be interested to see all the new areas included in this complete makeover. How is the book formatted? The book is divided into four sections: FamilySearch.org, FamilySearch Indexing, New FamilySearch.org, and Other FamilySearch websites. Each section has numerous short chapters, most just a page or two long. There are dozens of screenshots, so you can follow along as you work on your own computer. There is a glossary as well as an index at the end of the book. |
