1896 Cyclone Deaths
In May 1896, a cyclone, now called a tornado, hit St. Louis near the Soulard area. Many people died from this weather catastrophe. Some were prominent St. Louisans, others ordinary citizens. A special publication, The Great Cyclone, outlines the devastation from this event. The index includes the names of the deceased, their ages, and their home addresses.
This index was published in the 1975 St. Louis Genealogical Society Quarterly, volume 8, number 2, pages 43–45.
