Pre-registration is strongly suggested. Classes may be cancelled if minimum numbers aren’t met.

Beginning Genealogy          Instructor: Ilene Murray

Date: 1 & 8 June 2014     Day: Sunday        Time: 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.      Sessions: 2

Class Info.: This four-hour, two-session class will provide an overview, which covers such things as how to get started, use basic records, cite sources, and discover what is in repositories and on the Internet.

Class size: 77-25 students Cost: free for StLGS members; $60 for non-members

Introduction to RootsMagic     Instructor: Gary Flor

Date: 5 June 2014        Day: Thursday    Time: 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.       Session: 1

Class Info: Start the program, open a new database, and begin loading your family data. After that, we will conduct an overview of every menu item and option on the control panels. Bring your own laptop with your own program copy if you have one, or use the StLGS office computers (and bring a flash drive to save your work).

Class size: 7-12 students     Cost: $20 for StLGS members; $30 for non-members

Preparing for an Irish Research Trip        Instructor: Ken Webb

Dates: 22 June 2014        Day: Sunday         Time: 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.          Sessions: 1

Class Info: In this class, you will learn how and where to do research on finding your Irish ancestors before you travel to Ireland. Look at websites, publications, and organization of your materials. Stateside research is the most important step to a successful visit.

Your Family's Journey Through American History           Instructor: Jay Buck

Dates: 10 July 2014             Day: Thursday           Time: 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.       Session: 1

Class Info.: One of the more enjoyable aspects in researching your family's roots is to re-discover American history and its interaction with your family and you. This course will endeavor to provide technological resources that will assist the beginning genealogist in adding the all-important element of America's history to your family's history.

Class Size: 7-12 students          Cost: $20 for StLGS members; $30 for non-members

Reunion, v. 10, for the Mac: The Basics            Instructor: Bob Goode

The Reunion class is cancelled

Dates: 2 August  2014             Day: Saturday            Time: 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.       Session: 1

Class Info.: This class for users of previous versions of Reunion for the Mac or for beginning Reunion 10 users. We will cover key features of Reunion 10. NOTE: There are no Macs in the class area. Bring your laptop with Reunion on it, if you want to work along with the instructor.

Learning About Lineage Societies            Instructor: Judy Belford

Dates: 7 August  2014             Day: Thursday            Time: 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.       Session: 1

Class Info.: Membership in a lineage society is often a research objective for many people. There are a number of such societies in the St. Louis area that stem fro the Mayflower, American Revolution, and Civil War. Meet representatives of these societies and learn about finding the necessary documentation.

Class Size: 7-20 students          Cost: $20 for StLGS members; $30 for non-members

Finding German Origins             Instructor: Carol Whitton

Dates: 9 August  2014             Day: Saturday            Time: 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.       Session: 1

Class Info.: Learn what's needed to cross the Atlantic and which records likely name your ancestor's village. Use maps and gazetteers and determine if parish records are available.

Class Size: 7-25 students          Cost: $20 for StLGS members; $30 for non-members

French North American Research            Instructor: Larry Franke

Dates: 17 August  2014             Day: Sunday            Time: 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.       Session: 1

Class Info.: Come and learn about the French arrival in North America and how to decipher the civil and church records they left behind.

Class Size: 7-25 students          Cost: $20 for StLGS members; $30 for non-members

Genealogical Software Problem Solving Session      

Info: Need help with a genealogical software program? We have "experts" on hand for RootsMagic, Legacy, The Master Genealogist, Family Tree Maker, and Reunion (for the Mac). Make an appointment for a private in-person individual session. Your must bring your own laptop for individual assistance.
