Civilian Conservation Corps


In 1934, President Franklin Roosevelt formed the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). Over four million men participated in this program that financially assisted families across the country. The young recruits received $30 per month with $25 of that amount sent home and $5 retained by the young CCC enrollee.

The national museum for the CCC alumni is located in St. Louis County. If your ancestor participated in the CCC in any part of the country, contact the museum for further information.

The National Civilian Personnel Records Center houses government records for CCC recruits. You may write to this facility for the admission and discharge records for CCC recruits. If the recruit is still living, he must sign the record request. If the recruit is deceased, send a copy of his death certificate along with the request.
