Federal Programs


Government programs affect our lives daily. Some of our ancestors worked for the United States government in various ways. Perhaps a family member was a civilian employee for the government, was part of the WPA program, or participated in the Civilian Conservation Corps.

Fortunately, the government retains records for all employees. Just as the Military Personnel Record Center is the home for twentieth century military records, the Civilian Personnel Record Center maintains civilian employee records for the same era. Both facilities are located in St. Louis and are part of the National Archives system.
