Events

The St. Louis Genealogical Society hosts many events throughout the year.

Meetings

The Society’s general meetings are held monthly (except for April and December) at the St. Louis County Library Headquarters. Most meetings throughout the year are held on the second Tuesday of the month from 7:00–9:00 p.m. During the winter months of January, February, and March, however, we hold our meetings on Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m.–12:00 noon. This is to accommodate our members who do not wish to drive at night during the winter.

All Society meetings are free and open to the public. Each meeting opens with a 30-minute “chat time” followed by a lecture presentation by a featured speaker. Please check our calendar for the complete schedule of meeting times and topics.

The Annual Fair

Each year since 1970 the Society has hosted an all-day genealogical conference, called the Fair. Historically, it has been the largest such single-day event in the Midwest. The Fair typically features one or more nationally-recognized speakers, several outstanding local speakers, a large and bustling vendor area, and an optional lunch.

St. Louis Research Institute

The St. Louis Research Institute is an opportunity for those with St. Louis ancestry to spend a week working with experienced Society volunteers and local library personnel on their family history. This research experience is a combination of lectures, tutorials, one-on-one consulting, and on-site library research.

Speaker Series

The Society’s Speaker Series offers an all-day genealogical event focused on a specific topic.  Typically delivered by a nationally-known expert in the field, the Speaker Series event includes a series of lecture presentations on the event topic, as well as time for individual consulting with the presenter.  Lunch is included in the program.

Salt Lake City Research Trip

Each year in November, Society members have the opportunity to conduct their family history research in the world’s largest genealogical library—the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah. Guided by experienced tour leaders, each participant works independently on his or her research agenda. This research package includes seven nights of hotel lodging.

Open House

The Society’s Open House, in January, is a time to mingle with the many volunteers who keep the Society going, to see first-hand what services are available in our office, to shop at our Trading Post, and (generally) to be party to a surprise or two.

Handicap Access

The Society makes every effort to assure access for those with special needs to its events. If you have such a need, or have a question about this, please contact the Society.
