Pomeroy, A. D. P560 19 Jul 1857 Of others who suffered from the heat we heard that Mr. A. D. Pomeroy, of the Board of Delegates was suddenly attacked, but by timely and judicious treatment, recovered in a short time. In the course of Saturday the Coroner held inquests on several persons who had died from sun stroke, and two bodies of unknown men, found floating m the river.

Ramsen, George R525 5 Sep 1854 Inquest No. 34 was held at the Gravois diggings, six miles from the city, on the body of George Ramsen. He was an Englishman by birth and worked in the coal mines. He was 39 years of age. Was out day before yesterday apparently in good health, and was found yesterday morning dead in his bed. Verdict death from sun stroke.
Rawson, Thomas R250 17 Jul 1857 A drayman named Thomas Rawson, who lived on Carr and Twenty-second streets was found by the police yesterday afternoon lying on the levee in a state of partial insensibility from sunstroke. He was brought to the Health Office and after being bled, died. His condition when brought to the office did not seem serious, but afterwards proved that his attack was a grave one.

The disease assumed a congestive character, and this, with the oppressive heat of an upper room, cause her death in a very short time.

Welch, John W420 10 Jun 1867 John Welch, an Irishman, residing on Broadway, between Buchanan and Dock streets, died on Saturday from sunstroke induced by liquor. He was 44 years of age, a single man, and had been in America 21 years.
Whittaker, William W326 12 Aug 1862 At the same institution the Coroner's attentions were paid to a William Whittaker, who was found to have died from congestion of the brain and heart, occasioned by intemperance and excessive heat.
Whittel, Thomas W340 29 Jul 1858 Another unfortunate victim was early yesterday found prostrated by sun stroke on the Levee, between Walnut and Elm streets. Two policemen removed him, at about 8 o'clock to the Health Office, where the day police captain, and two or three policemen used all available means for his restoration. At that hour the Health Office clerk is not required to be in attendance. The City Health Officer was summoned and as speedily as practicable medical aid was rendered to the sufferer. At about 9:30 o'clock he died. His body was conveyed to the "dead house" at the City Hospital to await inquest. Deceased's name was Thomas Whittel, and he resided at Ninth and O'Fallon streets.

The body was conveyed to the Central Police Station, where deceased's papers indicated his name as A. Winters, and that he was connected with the Cincinnati Volksblatt, and was pursuing his vocation as a correspondent or reporter.
