Goebel, G. Rudolph G140 30 Jul 1856 Sun Stroke... Tuesday evening, the body of a German man was found on the sidewalk, at the corner of Main and O'Fallon streets. An inquest was held and a verdict rendered of death from the effects of the sun and heat. It was ascertained that the deceased was a well-known citizen named G. Rudolph Goebel, who recently returned from Lexington, MO and Kansas City, in both of which places he resided a short time. He was a very respectable gentleman, and his father is postmaster in Wetter Kurbesser Germany. His body is being returned to his family in Germany.

Hartuck, Daniel H632 18 Jul 1857 The Coroner held the following inquests yesterday. Another was held at a house on St Charles street, between Twentieth and Twenty-first streets, on the body of an intemperate man named Daniel Hartuck, who had been drinking to excess and who had been exposed to the sun. His wife was found by the Coroner in a state of extreme prostration from drinking and exposure, and was sent to the City Hospital for treatment.

Kohn, Barbara K500 21 Jul 1860 A woman named Barbara Kohn, aged 27 years, fell and expired at No. 113 South Second street. She was a Bavarian, and a passenger of the steamer Ben Lewis when that vessel blew up and burned at Cairo a few weeks ago. Her husband had then recently died, and this calamity, added to an exposure of several hours during the catastrophe to the steamer, induced a state of physical weakness which yesterday rendered her an easy victim to the excessive heat.

Kraemer, Albert K656 4 Aug 1861 A German named Albert Kraemer died suddenly Saturday morning. He had been to market and just returned and reached his residence on Convent street between Third and Fourth streets, when he fell to the floor and immediately expired. The cause of death was found to be the heat and over exertion. The age of the deceased was 55 years
Kriwan, Daniel K650 31 Jul 1858 On Thursday a lad aged 4 years was found lying in the yard of the House of Refuge apparently suffering from sun stroke. He immediately received medical assistance but expired in a few hours of congestion of the brain. His name was Daniel Kriwan, and he was placed in the House of Refuge on the 21st of April. His parents are not known but he was removed from the cruel mercies of a drunken stepfather at Sixth and Green streets.

Yesterday morning he was found dead in his bed.

He was borne in a hand cart to the depot whither a physician was called, who pronounced the case hopeless. The usual remedies being, however, applied the patient survived till yesterday morning, when he was placed in the City Hospital.

He was taken in an insensible condition to the Health office, where with the aid of the usual remedies, he was so far restored as to be conveyed to the City Hospital.

While on the way back he was sun struck and was found dead on Arsenal street, about a mile this side of the Poor House. He has no relatives in this country.

Millenkamp, George M452 7 Jul 1858 Monday evening on Grand near Park avenue was found the body of George Millenkamp, a German aged 45 years. He resided on the alley near Morgan and Eighth streets, but had been visiting at a cousin's house, beyond the lower new limits of the city. Being unwell, he came on horseback to the city for medicine on Sunday morning, stopped at his house, and while returning at 3 p.m. was seen to dismount on Grand avenue and attempt to enter a house nearby. He was unable to do so, fell to the pavement and soon expired. The Jury rendered a verdict of death from sunstroke.

Monahan, Father M550 6 Jul 1860 On the 4th, as some gentlemen were passing along Chouteau avenue, near Tenth street, they discovered a dead man lying by the roadside. On examination it was found to be the body of Father Monahan, a Catholic priest, who, for several weeks, has been at the Sisters’ Hospital in an insane condition. Liberty was given him yesterday morning to go out and take the air. He wandered off too far, and probably died from heat and exhaustion. His age was about thirtyfive.

Murphy, Patrick M610 19 Jul 1859 Yesterday afternoon, a man named Patrick Murphy, about thirty five years of age, fell to the ground at the corner of Broadway and Wright streets, from the effects of the sun. For a long time it was thought that his recovery was impossible. He was unable to speak, and lay in a dying condition all the afternoon. At night, however, as the atmosphere became cool, he exhibited symptoms for the better. At eight o’clock, a wagon was procured and he was taken to his residence. It was then thought that his recovery was probable. He is an unmarried man and a native of Ireland.

Negos, George N220 19 Aug 1863 Mr. George Negos, River reporter of the Evening News, was going his rounds on the Levee, on Monday, was so prostrated by the heat that he was taken on board a steamer in a helpless state, where he remained till late in the evening, and was then conveyed to his residence. He is seriously though not dangerously ill.
