Slaves in Early Wills, 1829–1846

Slaves were a part of early St. Louis. In some cases, the slave owner’s will or probate packet identified slaves, even providing the slave’s date of birth. These documents may be the only record of the birth date. This index includes information from two such wills.

Dorothy Amburgey Griffith submitted this data for publication in the 1983 St. Louis Genealogical Society Quarterly, volume 16, number 4, page 101.
